Electric Guitar
This project began with the simple goal of enhancing my woodworking skills and producing an instrument on which I could learn to play some of my favorite songs.

The idea:
Working from a simple wood block, I shaped, sanded, and oiled the body before calculating fret distances and installing hardware. Along the way, I added several custom touches: instead of using standard metal knobs, I lathed and polished two custom wooden knobs. Instead of a standard plastic or metal backplate, I fabricated a custom wood plate, matching the wood and grain with the larger guitar body to create a nearly seamless transition. The custom headstock design was hand drawn, then converted into a computer file and burned into the headstock with a laser cutter.
I also rebuilt an old broken amplifier from its shell, reconstructing it with improved sound quality and adding a headphone jack to allow the amp to double as a general purpose speaker.
A fully functional electric guitar and amplifier, built entirely by hand. The project was a uniquely rewarding experience that pushed my woodworking skills and gave me an instrument I'm proud to play.
